What you can do at home to improve your child's Reading skills

1. Set aside a regular time each day to read with your child

2. Provide a quiet space where he/she can read

3. Ask your child about what they have read (Who are the characters?, What is the setting?, What do you think will happen next?, How would you have ended the book?)

3. Allow he/she to read what is of interest to them (magazines, online articles, comic books, etc.)

4. Visit the public library and encourage checking out books of interest

About Mrs. Taylor

Hi, I'm Lisa Taylor and I am the Exceptional Children's teacher. This will be my 5th year at Broad Creek Middle school and 13th year teaching in Carteret County as an Exceptional Children's teacher. I am very excited to be a part of the Broad Creek Middle School family and look forward to a great year!

A little about myself, I am originally from La Grange, NC and attended UNCW to pursue a degree in Psychology. After graduating, I worked with school aged children with various physical and cognitive disabilities in the school and community setting. I can honestly say, this is what sparked my passion for working with special needs children! I truly love doing what I do! To follow my dreams of becoming a special education teacher, I then attended ECU for a licensure in special education general curriculum and severe/profound.

I look forward to this being an awesome year and cannot wait to get to know and work with your child!
